K-Care and Afterschool Care
K-CARE
K-Care provides quality care for kindergarten students of working parents.
Services are available to students who attend Altamont, Guilderland, Lynnwood,
Pinebush and Westmere Elementary Schools. Our K-Care programs are registered
with the NYS Department of Social Services and are accredited with the National
Afterschool Association. They have planned activities with an emphasis on
social skills, creativity and focus on the YMCA core values: caring, respect,
honesty and responsibility. We also proved snacks and lots of fun! Our Full
Time K-Care Programs also have a 1 hour rest period/quiet time for children.
All children entering the program must be fully potty trained.
Program Structure
8am-9am: arrival, pledge, table time (games) and circle time
(calendar, weather, birthdays, story)
9am-9:30am: snack and craft activity
9:30am-10:30am: center choices (dramatic play, computer, building,
reading, music, science, free art) outside play or room games.
10:30am-11:30am: hand washing and lunch (option to purchase
hot lunch in the cafeteria or bring you own)
11:30: morning K-Care students are brought to afternoon Kindergarten
and afternoon K-Care students are brought from Kindergarten to K-Care
Room
11:30am-1pm: center choices, outside play or room games
1pm-2pm: circle time and daily planned activity
2pm: part time K-Care students brought out to busses, full time
K-Care children are brought from Kindergarten to after noon extended
K-Care
2pm-2:45pm: outside play or gymnasium
2:45pm-3pm: snack
3pm-4pm: rest/quiet time (students are allowed to rest on their
mats and nap or bring a small toy or book)
4pm-5:45pm: table time choices, pick-up

Y's Time Afterschool Program
If you are looking for a fun, safe place for your child after school, try
our Y's Time program! Outdoor play, games, arts and crafts, dramatic play,
homework time, physical activity and snack are all a part of the activities
included in this program. Character development, with an emphasis on the
YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility is a stron
focus in aall of our programs. Activities also include health and wellness,
nutrition, KIDZLIT (literacy) and all are incorporated in our R.E.A.D. curriculu:
Rest, Exercise, Achievement and Diet. All activities are age appropriate.
We maintain a staff to child ratio of 1:10. All programs are registered
with the NYS Department of Social Services. Lead staff are CPR, First Aid
and MAT (medical administration) certified. We accept children from Altamont
schools and have programs at Westmere, Pinebush, Guilderland and Berne-Knox-Westerlo
Elementary schools. All Y-Time programs run from Monday through Friday when
school is in session from 2pm-5:45pm. BKW Y's Time runs from 2:15pm-6:15pm.

2:15pm-2:45pm: centers (homework club, building, open art, table
games, gym/outdoor activities
2:45pm-3:30: Open Snack
3pm-5:45pm: planned crafts, KidzLit, cooking, diversity activities,
and structured physical activity (students can rotate through centers
in 20-30 minute increments)
Special Events/Activities
- cards to the troops through Boscovs
- Jar Wars (children bring in spare change to raise money for Reach
Out for Youth/YMCA Scholarship Fund which allows families in our community
who might otherwise not be able to be a part of programs at the YMCA)
- Lights-On After School Celebration (celebrating after school programs)
- Holiday celebrations
- culturally diverse activities
- visits from community authorities
