Parent/Infant or Child Lessons and Preschool Swim Lessons
- Parent/Infant or Child Lessons are designed to offer a way for parents to learn water safety and help teach their children basic swimming and water safety skills. This is for children ages 6 months to 3-years-old and many times is a child’s first exposure to pools and organized swimming lessons. It’s also a great way to meet and interact with other parents.
- Preschool swim lessons are for ages 3-5 years old and children in this age group are broken down by ability into pikes, eels, rays and starfish levels. These progressive lessons focus on the five components of YMCA swim lessons: personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. Activities will vary within each component based on what is developmentally appropriate at each level.
Youth Swim Lessons
Youth swim lessons are for ages 6-18 years old and children in this age group are broken down by ability into polliwogs, guppies, minnows, fish, flying fish, shark, and porpoise levels. These progressive lessons focus on the five components of YMCA swim lessons: personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. Activities will vary within each component based on what is developmentally appropriate at each level.
Adult Swim Lessons
Adult Swim Lessons are designed for ages 16 and up for either adults who do not
know how to swim or adults who are comfortable in water and want to improve their strokes and techniques. Non-swimmers are usually those who were traumatized or developed a fear of water as children or those who just never had the opportunity to take swimming lessons. Adult swimmers’ skills range from beginner to advanced, and may include recreational swimmers, tri-athletes or masters swimmers.
Private Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons are designed for ages 3 and up and are available as either one on one instruction or one instructor with 2 children. These lessons follow the same components as YMCA Preschool and Youth lessons, but give participants the opportunity to focus on specific areas based on their individual needs. Participants schedule the meeting times with the instructor based on pool and instructor availability.
Stroke Clinics
Stroke Clinics are offered at various times throughout the year and are geared toward the more advanced swimmers working to refine their stroke techniques. These clinics focus on the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly. These usually appeal to competitive swimmers or future competitive swimmers as well as more serious swimmers.
